Community Options, Inc. is a New Jersey-based national nonprofit organization with the mission to develop housing and employment supports for persons with disabilities. Founded in 1989, the organization today employs 5,300 staff and supports more than 5,000 people with disabilities and their families across 11 states.

What is your company’s main product or service? Community Options provides customized supports so that people with disabilities can have a good quality of life and achieve their goals. We build houses that keep people safe and provide skills training so that everyone can be as independent as possible. All are encouraged to be part of the community, and anyone who wants to work is supported to do so.

What differentiates your company from others in your industry? Choice, dignity, and innovation are at the core of Community Options’ philosophy. This is reflected in everything we do, from program design to staff training and retention initiatives.

Any new milestones/updates you would like to share? We recently opened two new co-working office rental spaces in New Jersey called the Daily Plan It. These sites employ people with disabilities, provide fully furnished office rentals to local small businesses, encourage integration, and create pathways to work for people who need to develop skills.

What special programs or benefits do you offer your employees? We know that investing in our employees is paramount to the success of our organization. We provide leadership training and career advancement opportunities. We also offer tuition reimbursement and a management certificate program in partnership with Duke University. As a result of these initiatives, 56% of our Executive Directors have been promoted from within.
