A Communicative Performer Steps out on Stage to the Place he Calls Home
Andre Solomon -Glover, international opera singer, supported by a national nonprofit
(New York, New York, October 9, 2009): Andre Solomon-Glover had developed an international career singing a wide repertoire ranging from the roots of American song to opera, from Broadway to ground-breaking contemporary works. Mr. Solomon-Glover, whom critics have called “a remarkably communicative performer,” has made solo appearances in major halls throughout the United States and Europe; he has performed with the Leipzig Gewandhaus and the Philadelphia Orchestra, among others.
In 2002, however, he suffered a stroke that resulted in a Traumatic Brain Injury. Since his stroke, Andre has performed very little compared to his involvement prior to his stroke. All of that will change on October 17, 2009, when Andre will take the stage at 8pm at the Kaufman Center Merkin Concert hall in Manhattan. When Andre steps out on that stage, he will regain a piece of his life back that was lost after his injury.
Andre is supported in his home by a national nonprofit, Community Options that develops housing and employment supports for people with Traumatic Brain Injury and other developmental disabilities. Community Options has been supporting Andre for 2 years and the organization assists Andre with various daily living skills. Andre is also a recent graduate of RUSK Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine out of the New York University Langone Medical Center.
Robert Stack who founded Community Options in 1989, the organization that supports Andre, says, “Disability is a very objective condition – it knows no boundaries relative to income, race, religion or political affiliation. Disabilities can happen to anyone at anytime. We are thrilled for Andre that he is reclaiming his life and doing what he loves.” Andre’s return to the stage at the Kaufman Center, Merkin Concert Hall on October 17th
