Nearly 100 runners braved below freezing temperatures and whipping winds to compete in Saturday’s Cupid’s Chase 5K in Harrisburg.

Brad Blaszynski of Annville finished 3 seconds ahead of Campbelltown’s Christian Jocham to win the race sponsored by Community Options. The 17-year-old covered the course that started and ended on City Island in 21:22.2. Jocham finished in 21:25.5.

Cressona’s Randall Nunemacher was third in 21:46.5.

Hummelstown’s Natalie Nutt was the first female finisher, coming in at 23:01.5. Kintnersville’s Jessica Lehr finished second in 24:17.3 and Kaitlin Erickson of Elizabethtown was third at 24:49.1.

The first Cupid’s Chase took place in Princeton, N.J., in 2009. The following year it went national. This year the expectation was to have more than “10,000 participants in 30 cities walking, running, jogging and rolling (baby strollers and wheelchairs).”

Funds raised through the races provide housing, support services and advocacy assistance to help empower people with disabilities, according to its website. Funds will stay in the cities and towns that host races.
