PRINCETON, NJ — National nonprofit organization Community Options is nearing 30 years of service. Recently, its El Paso office just hit the 20-year milestone in providing housing and employment supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
“I would like to thank our President and CEO Robert Stack for the opportunity to serve and thank you to all our national staff for their much-appreciated support,” said Community Options’ El Paso Executive Director, Mario Saenz. “A wholehearted thank you to all my staff, some who have been with me for 20 years, who work hard every day to provide quality care to our individuals.”
Saenz was the first person hired in El Paso in March 1997 as a one-man office. Before the calendar turned to April, Saenz had placed 20 individuals with disabilities in host homes. Since then, Saenz has led organization’s support for more than 175 individuals, oversees a staff of over 120 to assist in that support, and the operation of nine group homes to directly provide inclusive, community living in El Paso.
In addition to housing, Saenz has instituted employment programs in partnership with local businesses. Forty individuals supported by Community Options – El Paso are currently in employment programs, including placements over the years with Sears, Walmart, Home Depot, and the state of Texas.
“It is with great pride to see and recognize that by working together we can and have accomplished the impossible,” Saenz continued. “Community Options, Inc. is built on the values of teamwork and belief in one’s self and each other. This is what holds us apart from other agencies.”
