Community Options Celebrates 37 Years of Supporting People with Disabilities

PRINCETON, NJ — February 9, 2026 — Community Options, a leading national nonprofit supporting people with disabilities, proudly marks its 37th anniversary on February 9, 2026.
Founded on February 9, 1989, Community Options was founded with a mission to develop housing and employment supports for persons with disabilities. Today, the organization supports more than 7,000 individuals and their families across 12 states, operating in over 60 locations while providing person-centered residential care, employment supports, day programs, transition services and entrepreneurial social enterprises.
“From our earliest days, Community Options has stood for inclusion, dignity and self-determination,” said Robert Stack, Founder, President and CEO of Community Options. “Over the past 37 years, our teams have worked tirelessly to help tens of thousands of individuals with disabilities live and work in communities of their choosing. We remain committed to expanding opportunities, strengthening partnerships and advocating for systemic change so that all people, regardless of ability, can thrive.”
Community Options’ service offerings have expanded significantly since its founding and now include:
- Residential supports that help individuals live in community-based homes tailored to their needs
- Employment services ranging from supported employment and vocational training to entrepreneurial enterprises such as Vaseful, Presents of Mind, and Daily Plan It
- School-to-Employment Programs (STEP) that support youth transition into competitive workforce participation
- Medical and therapeutic day programs for individuals with more intensive needs
These services reflect Community Options’ philosophy that individuals with disabilities should have the opportunity to live, work and belong in local neighborhood settings rather than in large congregate or institutional environments.
Beyond direct services, Community Options promotes public awareness and inclusion through signature events like Cupid’s Chase 5K and community engagement initiatives. As the organization marks its 37th anniversary, it reaffirms its commitment to expanding quality supports and strengthening partnerships to build a more inclusive and equitable future for people with disabilities.
