Community Options was present in Harrisburg for an advocacy event for direct support professionals

On Wednesday, May 03, 2023 Community Options Inc. was present in Harrisburg for an advocacy event for direct support professionals. We were advocating for Governor Shapiro’s budget to reflect pay increases for direct support employees. We were present for a press conference where several state representatives, family members, and executives from other agencies spoke on the need for an increased wages. From the western Pa region, two individuals supported of Corey and Josh, made the trip to Harrisburg to advocate and tour the capitol building. We did get to meet briefly with Jessica Benham (second picture) who is the representative for the 36th district in Allegheny county. Both, Corey and Josh, were well spoken at the event. Great job representing, Community Options Inc.!

Community Options Inc. executive directors, regional directors, and the state director for Pennsylvania gathered on the steps inside the Harrisburg capitol building following the press conference for the advocacy of increased wages for direct support professionals. Several representatives from the state of Pennsylvania, family members, and executives from agencies that employ direct care workers spoke at the press conference on the need of better wages and more qualified staff to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
