Community Options’ STEP Program Partners with Trenton Thunder
PRINCETON, NJ – 7/23/2015 – Community Options Inc.’s School to Employment Program (STEP) of Mercer County, NJ has partnered with the Trenton Thunder for the second year in a row for the game on Thursday, July 23rd at 7 pm at Waterfront Park in Trenton, NJ. “The Trenton Thunder event raises awareness and funds to help support young adults with disabilities in our community to transition successfully from high school to adult hood,” said Meghan Hunter, Director of Transition Services from Community Options, Inc. The STEP team will be using funds raised from the game to buy more iPads to supplement the job coaches teaching styles when working with individuals. STEP Participant Jabree Ashburn will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the game.
STEP is a job training program for young adults with developmental disabilities, who are transitioning from school to the workforce. Community Options provides unpaid internships for the participants, where they work side by side with a highly trained job coach who trains them in the necessary skills to eventually maintain competitive and meaningful employment in the local community. STEP has successfully mitigated the risks associated with the underemployment of people with disabilities by consistently preparing, training, and placing participating participants in meaningful jobs.
If you are interested in coming out to the game or would like more information about the STEP Program, contact Meghan Hunter at 609-419-4418. For more information on Community Options visit www.comop.org.
