September 02, 2021 | Press Release.pdf
Nashville, TN – October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. In recognition, Community Options, Inc. will host a “Ride for Disability Awareness” motorcycle tour across Tennessee on Saturday, October 2nd, 2021.
Community Options is a national nonprofit that supports over 5,000 people with disabilities through innovative housing and employment programs. In Tennessee, the organization has offices in Nashville, Cookeville, Maryville and Chattanooga from which they support 146 people in community-based programs.
“The Ride for Disability Awareness is a great way to generate discussion centered around people with disabilities, while also raising funds to support the cause,” said Michael Wilson, a retired Navy veteran and volunteer Chair of the Ride for Disability Awareness. “The support Community Options provides to people with disabilities in our communities is inspiring, and I am honored to have a hand in organizing this great ride.”
The ride will begin at 8:00 AM in Cookeville. From there, riders will arrive in Chattanooga around 11:00 AM, and then Murfreesboro around 1:00 PM before returning to Cookeville around 3:00 PM.
“With October being National Disability Employment Awareness Month, there is no better time to hold a fun and exciting event to benefit the people with disabilities who Community Options supports,” said Meika McClendon, Tennessee State Director for Community Options. “Many people with disabilities are hardworking, dedicated employees. Part of our mission at Community Options is to educate the public and employers about their abilities in hopes of expanding the job opportunities available to them. This ride furthers that dialogue throughout Tennessee.”
The cost per rider is $25. All funds raised will directly benefit the people we support in Tennessee.
