Cupid's 5K Chase coming to Utah for the first time in hopes of "sparking love connections"

Shannon Wilkins joined Good Morning Utah to discuss the first-ever Cupid's Chase 5K in Salt Lake City.

2/6/2018 - SALT LAKE CITY, Utah(News4Utah) In honor of the month of Love, this Saturday, the Cupid's 5K will be in Salt Lake City for the first time. Shannon Wilkins, Associate Executive Director of local nonprofit Community Options, joined Emily Clark to talk about how you can be part of it.

Saturday, February 10, 2018, Community Options will celebrate its 10th annual Cupid's Chase 5K with 37 races across 11 states and thousands of runners expected. The first Cupid's Chase 5K took place in Princeton, NJ in 2009 with 350 runners, but it's the race's first time ever in Utah.

Wilkins says last year's Cupid's Chase raised nearly $300,000 and $1 million total over the last four years. Over 4,000 runners participated in last year's event in 32 cities and nine states.

Community Options has been around since 1989, but Wilkins says they've only recently expanded to Utah within the last few years.

Participants will receive an "Available" or "Unavailable" shirt to wear for the race in hopes of sparking a love connection. They will also receive a finisher medal, a goody bag and refreshments.
