BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - A Valentine's Day themed race is taking place this weekend to benefit people with developmental disabilities.

The 10th annual Cupid's Chase 5K takes place on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.

The event is a fundraiser for Community Options, a national non-profit providing employment, respite, and residential services for the developmentally disabled.

The race takes off from the corner of Court and Hawley Streets, making its way through Downtown Binghamton.

People are encouraged to dress up in Valentine's Day attire with prizes for best costume for singles and couples.

Another highlight of the race is being cheered on by the Community Options' clients.

"We have encouragers at the starting line and you'll feel it right at the beginning. There are encouragers throughout the run and there are people at the finish line with thunder sticks and bullhorns that will make all kinds of noise when you cross the finish line. And, the best part is when you finish, our individuals will be there to give you your medal as a final thank you," said Community Options Executive Director Amanda Rick.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Holiday Inn Ballroom.

A reception and awards ceremony will follow the race.

Community Options serves around 500 people in Broome County and the proceeds of the race will fund a new bathroom and other special projects and programs in our area.
