Direct Support Professional Wins New York State Association of Day Service Providers Award

October 11, 2010 (Binghamton, New York)- Community Options, Inc. is a national nonprofit organization that has been developing homes and employment for people with disabilities since 1989. Recently, one of the organization’s direct support professionals, Lisa Martin, won the New York State Association of Day Service Providers Award.

Martin has been with Community Options since 2006 and works in the Binghamton location as a Senior Direct Support Professional in the organization’s Day Habilitation Program that supports people with disabilities to integrate into the community and find employment.

The New York State Association of Day Service Providers (NYSADSP) promotes a service environment that offers personal growth and development for people with developmental disabilities to live to their fullest potential. Each year, at the NYSADSP symposium, one employee from each region is recognized for their exemplary work performance. Nominations are submitted from an agency and reviewed by NYSASDP board committee led by the Assistant Regional Directors and the Staff Development Director.

“I love working with the people we support on a daily basis and when I go home I know I have helped someone with their life goals,” says Martin. Martin will be a guest at the NYSADSP Annual Symposium taking place November 3-5. 2010 at the Gideon Putnam Resort and Spa in Saratoga Springs, New York. Acting Commissioner Max Chmura will present Martin with her award.

The Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) has also recognized Martin’s service excellence as their September 2010 employee of the month. GBCC collaborates with area business for network and recognition to area business contributions to the community. Martin was featured in their annual newsletter and offered gift certificates.
