Sweets, flowers and dinner spots in Hudson County for Valentine’s Day

Cupid will make his way to Hudson County in just a week, and with plenty of nearby flower shops, candy stores and restaurants, you can make Valentine’s Day this year a memorable one.

Don’t have plans for Valentines Day? Check out some of these options:

Fundraiser

Habit Hudson County, a group dedicated to the elimination of poverty, will host a gift-wrapping fundraiser on Feb. 13 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Newport Centre Mall in Jersey City.

Volunteers, who are required to be 16 and over and can work a minimum of two hours, are asked to attend an orientation at New Jersey City University on Monday at 6:30 p.m. in Fries Hall.

Donations of gift-wrapping supplies, including bows, ribbons, tape, wrapping tissue paper, are being accepted. To register or for information call 201-991-0673 or email jweems@habitathudsoncounty.org.

Orale
Traditional Mexican restaurant, Orale (341 Grove St., Jersey City) will hold a “Friends With Benefits” night, offering a special prix fixe menu, open bar, and a DJ playing live music.

The restaurant will serve an assortment of Mexican dishes to share including guacamole, queso flameado, vegetarian enchiladas and tacos. The three-course tasting menu costs $65 per person and includes one specialty cocktail and open bar.

Satis Bistro
With a special Valentine’s Day menu, Satis Bistro (212 Washington St., Jersey City) will offer various Mediterranean options on Feb. 14 including roasted beef fettuccine, chestnut soup and poached black cod.

Pilsener Haus & Biergarten
Pilsener Haus & Biergarten (1422 Grand St., Hoboken) will hold its third annual “F*@k Valentine’s Day” event on Feb. 14.

Anthony David’s (953 Bloomfield St. Hoboken) will host a romantic candlelight dinner with a special three-course menu.

Bin 14 Trattoria Wine Bar (1314 Washington St., Hoboken) will offer locals a romantic evening serving a special three-course menu on Feb. 14.

Amanda’s Restaurant
Amanda’s Restaurant (908 Washington St., Hoboken) will host a cozy Valentine’s Day dinner on Feb. 14 with two special menus.

The first menu, which begins at 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., costs $35 per person and the second, which runs from 6 to 10:30 p.m., will be a three-course prix fixe menu at $70 per person.

The American-style eatery will serve an assortment of dishes including artisan salads, lamb meatballs, pork chop, sirloin, duck, chicken, creative soups and a selection of desserts.

Valentine Day Cruise

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Spirit Cruises will host “Your Love Boat,” a three-hour dinner cruise on Feb. 13 and 14 from 7 to 11 p.m.

The cruise package includes a rose for every couple, champagne toast, tour on the Hudson River, as well as an elegant buffet, DJ, dancing and access to a deck.

The cruise, which costs $89.90 per person on Feb. 13 and $119.90 on Feb. 14, takes off from Lincoln Harbor in Weehawken, located at 1500 Harbor Blvd.

Valentine’s Day 5k

In support of the Wounded Warrior’s Project, Liberty State Park will hold a Valentine’s Day 5k on Feb. 14. The 5k will include a 1-mile run, at 9:30 a.m. for $15, and 5k run, at 10 a.m. for $25.

All participants will receive a free cup of hot chocolate. To register and for more information visit tiny.cc/valentine. The event, which offers free bag check and is stroller-friendly, is sponsored by the City Challenge Obstacle Race.

Cupid’s Chase

For those looking to give back this Valentine’s Day, Community Options Inc. will host its annual Cupid’s Chase 5k Run at two nearby locations on Feb. 14.

The national nonprofit organization will host its annual race to raise money for people with disabilities, at Buccleuch Park, located at 321 Easton Ave. in New Brunswick and 150-152 Speedwell Ave. in Morristown.

Registration for the 5k begins at 8 a.m., with the beginning at 10 a.m. Early registration (before Feb. 13) costs $30 and $50 on race day.
